Ogury’s Spotlight Series | Calum Tait

On paper, Calum Tait is Ogury’s Graphic Designer. But his story extends far beyond what his resume can convey. Through Ogury’s Spotlight Series, we’re exploring the unique passions and perspectives that shape our team members in their professional and personal lives.

You’ve had a diverse creative journey — from freelancing to founding studios to joining Ogury. Can you walk us through the path that led you here?

I’ve always used my career as a way to explore different parts of design. Freelancing exposed me to new sectors and pushed me to build a broader skill set, which eventually led me to launch my own projects and studios. Those experiences helped me learn, experiment, and figure out the kind of designer I wanted to become.

I love pushing myself creatively, so joining Ogury felt like a natural step. I’ve always been interested in brand and strategy, and this role offered the chance to grow, gain new perspectives, and be part of something bigger. Having previously created assets for companies that used adtech, it’s been great to now see how everything works behind the scenes.

How do you stay inspired in a fast-moving digital landscape?

For me, the biggest source of inspiration is the people around me. A strong team makes a huge difference. Sharing ideas, talking things through, and being open to honest feedback always helps me see my work from new angles.

Outside of work, most of my friends are creatives, so it’s inspiring to see what they’re experimenting with and to pick up new approaches from them. I don’t rely only on design blogs or social platforms — watching how others create online often sparks fresh thinking and opens new directions for me to explore.

I always come back to a quote I love: “If you steal from one author, it’s plagiarism; if you steal from many, it’s research.”

Collaboration is at the heart of brand building. What excites you most about partnering with teams across Ogury?

The variety of work and the chance to understand each team’s needs are what excite me most. I enjoy challenging ideas, exploring directions together, and building something stronger as a group. Seeing a project come to life through shared effort is always rewarding.

What advice would you give to emerging designers?

Explore, experiment, and enjoy what you do. Burnout is real, so finding moments of play keeps you motivated. Problem-solving will always matter more than mastering every tool — software changes, but the way you think doesn’t.

Stepping out of your comfort zone is essential. You only grow by trying new things and staying curious.

Outside of design, what helps you stay creative or switch off?

I’ve always loved art and design, but working in the industry has changed how I approach my hobbies. I keep drawing and painting in simple, offline ways — it helps me disconnect.

Music is another big outlet. Playing guitar, making music, or supporting friends’ bands gives me a creative boost without feeling like work.

What’s your go-to karaoke song?

Fly Me to the Moon by Frank Sinatra.

And finally, what’s your persona?

Art & Culture Lovers.
